Look for the Helpers
I am pro a woman/people making any decisions about her/their life and body they want. If you feel the way I do then most likely you feel the overturning of Roe v Wade is a blow and listening to the hurt, upset and fear of so many people has been painful to witness. If you’re someone who doesn’t agree with my sentiment I hope you stay. I still believe we can learn from each other and at the very least, allow space for each other’s feelings to coexist.
Here’s what came to me and now I share it with you. If you’re feeling angry, sad, frightened, and defeated it’s understandable. We can’t forget, though, that we’ve been through hard things before. The rise and fall and rise again of anything worth fighting for is nothing new. The thing that gives me hope is knowing that people are resourceful, creative, and relentless in times of opposition. So how am I keeping my hope alive?
We all have a role to play if we want one. While we’re not all meant to be activists or protesting on the frontlines, we can all find where we fit. We can hold space for each other and our differences. We can kill the competitiveness, cattiness, and gossip that we fall prey to and further drive a divide between us. We can choose to keep our resolve to what we feel is right and not let our differences dissolve us into further hate. We can keep our eyes off sensationalized headlines and keep them on the helpers, just like Mr. Rogers said he learned from his mother. When things get scary, look for the helpers. Well, I have my eyes on those creating networks of support and pathways to safety. I have my eyes on those advocating and those protesting, learning how I can support them. I am paying attention to the rise in people learning plant medicine and the return to natural pathways to healing. I am keeping my eyes on the priestesses, witches, healers, and shamans. My eyes are on the sex educators, therapists, coaches, counselors, and teachers because education and knowledge of self is power.
We are rising.
We can find ways to support those in need by keeping connections between us alive and sharing valid information responsibly (it takes a second to check your source). We can continue to question everything and educate ourselves. Most importantly to me is reminding myself of the necessity of empathy because it’s so easy to give in to anger and hate right now. It’s so easy to live in assumptions about other people who think differently than me but the fact of the matter is that there are no winners in any war really. Someone is always hurting and that’s enough for me to focus on keeping my heart open and my energy clean.
Rise Goddess, Rise.
