Erotic Art

I’ve always loved to write stories but I never considered writing erotic stories. Until recently that is. Inspired by so many creatives I’ve seen doing erotic spoken word and erotic visual art, I decided to give it a try and see what happened.

IT. IS. FUN. I mean really fun. And it’s hot AF. In a way, it mirrors real life and our sexual expression. As in pacing myself and allowing the details of the scene to unfold.

Not rushing the dialogue and allowing it to be meaningful, spicy, and truthful, oof that takes patience. In my hands, I get to create main characters over 40 with gray hair and wrinkles that she confidently embodies. I get to create a world where there are no God awful pick up lines but people behaving and treating each other as people.

Having really not read much erotica since sneaking my mom’s copy of Judy Blume’s Wifey back in middle school, I thought I had to jump right to the sex part. Turns out it’s so much more fun to write about the foreplay, go figure. The tease of it all was exactly the extra stimulation in my creativity and turn-on I needed. Here’s the important part, I am rewriting old narratives of how sex and foreplay are supposed to go based on what I’ve been fed through the media. And many times those visuals and narratives were being told from the male gaze for the male gaze. Writing my own erotica gives me another path to really think about what sexy is to me as a woman turning 49 this year. It gives me the space to safely explore my fantasies without having to commit to them in real life and with no judgment. It’s another outlet for creativity and sexual expression and that feels like another layer of FREEDOM.  For now, I’m writing alone but I definitely see it being something that could take my intimacy up a notch with my husband. Sure I’ve heard of reading erotica to each other as an addition to foreplay but reading what you wrote could make it even spicier. Or you two may end up hysterically laughing at each other’s writing but either way, it creates connection.

Before you even ask, this exploration is just for me right now. Perhaps one day I’ll bring it to the public but for now, I’m enjoying this being purely for my joy and creative sensual erotic expression. What are some ways you may want to explore your erotic creativity?
