Your North Star
Values.
That word is something I used to associate with an older generation like your grandparents always talking about family values. Except we’re living our values every day whether we realize it or not. Maybe they weren’t called that exactly when you were growing up but anything you remember about how to behave, how to work, how to live was all based on a combination of things. What your parents or guardians believed influenced how you behaved and viewed the world. The culture or religion you came from influenced you, maybe even dictated what you believed.
But what do YOU actually value now as an adult? Is it the same or do you sometimes feel conflicted between what you were told to value and what your personal experiences have taught you to value now as an adult? If this sounds familiar then it may be time for you to reevaluate what you stand for in your life. It doesn’t mean you have to toss everything your parents taught you out the window if it does work for you. Those family values can still live in your values system but are they your North Star?
Part of what I call having a Goddess Mentality requires you to know what your values, your North Star, consists of. Your values act as your anchor and your guiding light to help you make challenging decisions and to align you with a way of living that supports your growth as a person. The more clear you are in understanding what is important to you the better you will be at understanding why you feel triggered by certain behaviors and situations. Do a heart check right now. Think of each of the values you currently claim. How much are you truly walking your walk with each of those values?
If your commitment is coming in a little low on any of them you know where you need to focus on nurturing your Goddess Mentality. Don’t let a low commitment check on a value send you into a mini imposter syndrome spiral. Nurturing the Whole Woman requires us to know as much about ourselves as possible. The signs of cracks in the foundation are nothing more than valuable information needed to ensure we’re healing what needs to be healed and building ourselves up with integrity, from the ground up. With our values guiding us like the North Star, we find ourselves less in conflict with our lives and more in the flow of supporting the vision we have for our lives. If clearly laying out your values is something you’ve never done before, don’t worry, I got you covered. This November my Values 101 video will be available to you on my website. I created this values intro video to show you how to do a commitment check on your current values or help you create new ones.
Lastly, our values should never feel restrictive. They are there to support us and should leave us feeling expansive, expressed, and held.
So ask yourself, what’s my North Star?
